My 1st Day

I have to thank the following people/brands before we get into it:

  1. Those of you on Tiktok who helped me plan my outfit for my first day of work

  2. Brochu Walker and Santorelli who sent me the V-Neck Layered Lace sweater and Blue Velvet trousers years ago. Both items still look brand new, and I was proud to wear this outfit as I shopped alongside some of Dallas’ best dressed women yesterday

  3. The fashion blogger who hosted a closet sale before covid and sold this like new black coat to me at a major discount

Last week was a weird one, with the snow and ice days in DFW. This week I think it may start to sink in that I have turned my professional life completely upside down. I’m reading a book right now by Jamie Kern Lima called Believe It. She urges everyone to listen to the voice inside our head. That voice (according to her) is our soul that’s speaking, and we shouldn’t ignore it…I have ignored the voice inside my head regarding work for over a decade. I knew in my heart during my first internship that I didn’t belong. I had already been accepted into a master’s program by that point and was too far down the path to turn back or call an audible.

I didn’t know what to do, so I marched. Year after year, step by step. Until finally I was brave enough to admit to my family and closest friends that I want something else in life. I want to have a purpose professionally. I am good, scratch that, great with numbers. Numbers are easy for me to analyze. It’s something that comes naturally to me. I want a workday that has a blend of my natural talent AND something that I’m excited about. I’m hoping that I will then find both meaning and success. That’s the path that I’m on and I have promised myself not to look back. Onwards and upwards, looking and feeling our best.

Thank you for caring and thank you for reading the words I’ve been so scared to say out loud.

Xx,

Angeline
