Back to Basics - Trench Coat
If you’re new to this blog I want to say welcome and thank you for being here! Before we get started, here’s a quick recap of what you missed. I donated most of my clothes at the beginning of 2025 and am currently rebuilding my wardrobe from almost scratch. I’m really trying to be intentional when I shop. Instead of buying based on occasion, I want to first make sure I have the basics. Trying to switch gears has been tricky. I’m very curious to know if you already own what I’ll refer to as the basics. My first back to basics blog post featured black belts. As you can guess from the photo above, this second back to basics blog post will feature the trench coat.
Fun fact: I have never (until now) owned a trench coat. I somehow made it 35 years without one. I blame the weather. In Texas we have hot and we have cold. It’s either 100 degrees or 30 degrees. What I should have considered was the temperature inside office buildings and restaurants. Doctor’s offices and shopping malls. It’s usually incredibly cold inside those establishments. I should have also considered the versatility a trench coat would provide. The extra layer that adds a sophisticated final touch. I can’t believe it took me this long to wear one but I’m so excited to find out firsthand what I’ve been missing all this time!
When I started my search online for my very first trench coat, I had a few non-negotiables to keep me on course. I wanted a 100% cotton tan trench coat. The trench coat pictured above is what I ended up ordering. I wore it this morning to a meeting and loved how it made me feel! The outfit was pretty darn good without it, but adding the trench coat took it up a level and showed that I put thought and effort into my outfit when I got dressed this morning. I’m planning on wearing it again on our upcoming trip. I was going to wait until then to share it with you but it’s already selling out. This trench ended up in second place. It’s a lighter shade and is not 100% cotton but the price point had me going back and forth on whether the color and fabric should be deal breakers. I decided to stick to my vision and ordered this one during a promotion. The promotion is still going on which means you can also get it for 25% off. I ordered a size 4 and it fits perfectly.
I’m curious if a trench coat is something you already own. Please email, message, or comment on my social media to let me know.
Here are some other trench coats that I had my eye on:
Almost sold out but had to share
