Foundation Timeline
Some of the items I ordered from Sephora this week are products I would rank second only to skincare. If you don’t feel good about how your skin looks, it’s difficult to feel pleased with how your makeup looks overall. Always take the time each morning and evening to go through your skincare routine even if it’s only two products total. A two step routine is better than no routine at all. You don’t need to use the most expensive skincare products on the market, but you do need to be consistent. It also never hurts to drink water. Water is the only thing I drink during the day and in the evenings Monday - Friday (until date night Friday night where I’ve been known to order a skinny margarita).
The foundation that you use when applying makeup is almost as important as the products you applied just prior. Here are the foundation products that I’ve used at every age since I was 23.
Age 23 - 26: Armani Luminous Silk. This was back before Tiktok was even a thing. Instagram existed of course but we weren’t really getting makeup recommendations from Instagram at that time. Instead, you would hear about products from your friends or coworkers. That’s how I heard about the luminous silk foundation that’s still a frontrunner to this day (13 years later). I remember going to the Armani beauty counter at Neiman Marcus in Houston to find my perfect shade. I wore this daily for several years until aging got the best of me and I decided to seek out something with a little more coverage.
Age 27 - 30: Estee Lauder Double Wear . When you wake up at 5AM and are at the office by 7:00 you NEED a foundation that wont be missing by your lunch break. Heaven forbid I had a date after work and needed my makeup to last 15 whole hours. This product never let me down. It would last 12+ hours. No need for setting spray.
Age 31 - 32: During this time, I alternated between Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r and Makeup by Mario’s SurrealSkin. I’m not sure what the norm is, but I usually only have one foundation in my makeup bag to choose from. Once it runs out, I of course either buy it again or try something new. Maybe this is only online, but all the content I see is filled with women who own 5 or 6 foundations. They have so many products!
Age 33 - 34: Haus Labs Skin Tech . I heard about this product on Tiktok. I decided to try it and was pleased. It’s just hard to top two products like Luminous Silk and Double Wear. They’ve been bestsellers all this time for a reason.
Age 35 - 36: My makeup bag has both a medium coverage and a full coverage product in it now that the majority of my workdays are remote. Unless I have an event or a meeting I opt for a medium coverage. Both foundations are by NARS. The medium coverage foundation is also less matte.
